Research Project Preface
In prior years of writing research papers in school, I was never really given a choice of my topic. It was generally an assigned topic or a choice from a list of topics that most times held no interest for me, therefore not enough effort was put forth to finish the assignment either. They also involved some other things I wasn’t fond of doing, things that I didn't really feel were needed for me to learn. It’s been a very long time since I last wrote a research paper. What I can remember of it, the research part was the biggest issue for me, at that time there was no internet to research your information. Everything had to be researched in the library, or if you were lucky enough to have encyclopedias at your disposal, you could use them, you didn’t have to camp out at the library as long. Things have changed considerably since I last wrote a research paper. Technology has made it easier to find the information, for just about any topic. Assembly and presentation of the information have been made easier by computers, less hand writing of the information as you assemble it into a research paper.
For my Research Project I chose the subject of how severely unprepared the people and the health care system of the United States was, for the pandemic known as Coronavirus (COVID-19), do to the unpreparedness on the part of the Federal Government. This topic is important because of the lack of preparation for this pandemic, has caused it to infect tens of thousands of people, and take the lives of thousands more. The curve may have been flattened sooner with better use of the time our government had to prepare. The question is why weren’t we more prepared, why did the government wait so long to act and try to save American lives. Especially when the Government new, some say months others says years before, a pandemic would affect our way of life, and they had plenty of time to initiate plans to at least attempt to handle, the amount of sick people the pandemic would produce. Why weren’t the supplies that the hospitals needed, like respirators and PPE, distributed sooner and equally. I will be writing this paper in the MLA format with MLA citation style. My thesis statement is: The Federal Government could have shortened or contained the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by better preparing the American people and the American health care system. My audience is everyone in the United States that has the same questions I do, which should be everyone, why did the government take so long to prepare for this pandemic. Below is a list of the articles I referenced for this project.
